Herbert Hoover 1874 - 1964

Sometimes called "the fishing President", Herbert Hoover was happiest when he spent a day fly-fishing far from the White House. He viewed the sport as a way to restore his sense of priorities, commenting that "all men are equal before fish." An engineer by training, Hoover approached fishing systematically, giving careful thought to his tackle, his gear, his fishing stance and his fishing spots. He favored a Hardy Bros. "St. George Junio" Reel and a Hardy Bros. 7 foot, 6 inch, 3 piece "Marvel" Fly Rod (1927).
