In addition to his many Western novels, Grey wrote eight books on this fishing exploits, including "Trout Fisherman's Inferno." In 1937, he suffered a stroke while fishing for steelhead on the Rogue River in Oregon, and died on October 23, 1939, after just completing his morning workout with a weighted fishing rod in a fighting chair. Pictured are Grey's "The Perfect Fly Reel" (1925) from Hardy Bros., Alnwick, England, and his "Challenge" Salmon Rod from A.W. Gamage, London.
