About Peter Gerba      Inquiry

New York, New York was made in Scotia California while I was working on the 1984 Pacific Lumber Co. Annual Report. My client was Paige Johnson; I did quite a lot of work for her design firm. Paige was very generous in occasionally allowing me to stop the day’s work for a brief time to take my own photos.

The photo was made while Paige and I were walking through Pacific Lumber’s huge processing yard; the area was covered with big lumber barges, huge log carriers, big cranes, all the large equipment that a giant lumber operation would have on hand. The logs were brought in on barges and then floated on water-ways to the Mill. New York, New York is one of those big barges fitted with log processing equipment. If you have a close look at a print of this image you’re sure to understand the title “New York, New York.”
