About Howard Stein      Inquiry

April, 1968, my brother and I rented a Mustang for a drive from the Northeast to Key West. We left DC at night . . driving through the Carolinas, I tuned in the radio to hear "Washington was in flames" - we discovered MLK had been shot, there were riots in DC and other cities. Driving around Key West the next day, I discovered a curious balance of funk, casualness, character, history and cultural openness beyond the Florida norm. Looking up through a gas station's displays, I was struck by the confluence of a great American icon and religion, both nicely aged.
