At the top of each of the four main towers of the suspension section of the bridge is a platform that rises another ten feet or so above the topmost member of the tower to support the aircraft warning light. It is literally the very top of the tower.

This photo shows the view looking back down from the aircraft light platform through the access hole to the ladder that leads up from the topmost cross-member of W-2, the westernmost tower of the bridge, directly above Pier 26 and the bay 500 feet below.
